The best care
The operation theatre will be operational by 8:30 am every working day. Patients will report at 8:00 am.

Check List:
1.
The concerned doctor's admission note or prescription, indicating the type of surgery, date & time, is to be handed over to the receptionist so as to make it easier for them to make your stay comfortable. At the reception, preparation of admission paper, deposit as applicable, issue a receipt, allotment of bed / room number, consent for surgery / procedure, that is, all the preliminary formalities will be completed. You may be provided with a file and guided to your room / bed. The ward sister / concerned doctors will be informed.

The ward sister cross-checks the admission file and the pre-operation instructions, a check list will be used to follow the basic requirements for pre-operation instructions. This would include to check if you are fasting, your Blood pressure, pulse, FP blood sugar (if indicated) will be checked, shaving the operation site (if not already done), administration of enema or medications as instructed by the operating surgeon. You will be made to change into OT clothes, and all valuables and metal objects on your person should be removed and handed over to your accompanying attendant. From here, try and relax, the ward sister will inform the theatre staff, who will call for you when required.

In the operation theatre, re-checking of the pre-requisites of surgery is once again gone through, the nature of the procedure, the type of anesthesia and the effect of the immediate post-operative period will be explained to you. This will be explained either by the doctor on duty or the anesthetist or the senior nurse, and they will try to answer all your questions to the best of their ability. Before taking you to the OT, you will be sent to the toilet and a use of wheel chair / trolley may be made, especially if you are sedated or apprehensive to walk.

Once in the OT, again the procedure may be explained. If possible, every step of the preparation explained, e.g., taking of a IV line, you may feel the prick of the needle. The fixing of the cardioscope, placement of the cautery pad, exposing of the operating site, etc, will be done by a nurse. In short, care should be taken to maintain the modesty and dignity of the patient at all time. Reconfirmation on the side and site of surgery will be done as a safe guard.

After the procedure, depending on the type of surgery / procedure and type of anesthesia, you may be sent to the recovery room or direct to the room allotted to you. Post-procedure, details of the surgery will be told to you.

Periodic check of BP, pulse and level of consciousness, administration of IV fluids and / or drugs, as required, will be done by the ward sister.

Completion of the discharge papers, instructions regarding medication, precautions, complications and their management will be explained to you and your attendant. Written and verbal instruction with all the contact numbers possible will be given to you and your attendant. Your referring physician will be informed regarding the post-operative care, either via a note or telephone, so that there are no lacunae in your care and recovery.
8.
Settling of bills and refund or receiving payment will be smoothly done.
9.
Remember: All the paper work at every level should be complete with meticulous maintenance of records / notes taken down carefully, as this would be required for future reference as well as, for legal purpose. Also, it is mandatory by insurance companies, that, attested copies of all the papers should be submitted.
10.
Any queries can be asked before you go home. Depending on the nature of your surgery and your anesthesia, you should keep in mind that you should avoid driving for at least 24 hours, or perform any type of work that requires precision and concentration.
11.
You should be able to walk without support.
12.
Nausea or Vomiting means that you have to stay just a bit longer in the recovery.
13.
One of the criteria's for your discharge from the centre is your passing of urine.
14.
Checking of your dressing for soakage, and the need for it to be changed, will be done.
